We all know the feeling of trying to find the right word sometimes. OK, maybe you have a word that ‘sort of fits’, but you know there’s probably a better word out there that more accurately means what you want to say.

Imagine you’re doing a presentation in English. You have a pie chart () on the screen. You’re using the pie chart to give more information about something, for example, different departments in your company.

'This pie chart says that...', you begin to say. But you realize that 'Says that...' isn’t really correct (pie charts don’t speak!). What other verb could you use instead of 'says that'?

Depict is a useful verb. This means 'to show or represent something, usually with pictures / images'.

'This pie chart depicts the profit areas for each department in our company.' = 'This pie chart shows the profit areas for each department in our company'

Secret of Successful English Writing - Write as You Speak!

English writing is not a big issue if most writing you have to do is work-related. Sending e-mails describing various issues and communicating with your colleagues and superiors is pretty straightforward and you don’t have to be creative to pull it off.

When it comes to writing something more specific – like doing college tests, writing letters or even a short story, things can get on top of you and you can suddenly start feeling as if you’re required to write in a certain way, but you just can’t delivered that writing style!

The key to successful English writing is as simple as it might sound a bit confusing to some – you have to speak first, and then write!

To write successfully in English you need to have a clearly formed thought in your head, and it’s not a surprise anymore that so far you haven’t been able to write good enough. When we think, we don’t have clearly formulated sentences floating in our minds. All we have is abstract concepts, flash-like notions and work-chunks. There’s not much to write if want to duplicate your mind’s content on paper!

You need to create meaningful English content even before you start writing something, and that simply means to speak first, and then put it down on paper. It may sound childish at first, but remember that your aim is to be effective and if you can achieve 100% improvement of your English writing skills, should you really care about how it’s achieved?

And here’s another factor why we, foreign English speakers, find it a bit more difficult to write in English. When we think, there’s much of our own language’s content in our minds. Speaking the words out helps us to create meaningful English sentences, simple as that!

When I write articles for my blog, I always speak during the process to help myself write the actual sentences. I’d come back later to correct mistakes, change words and proofread the article; in the first draft I don’t care so much about the article’s technical quality.

So when you create a piece of written English material, your task number one is to verbalize your thoughts into a sentence, and number two – put it down on a paper or a word processing software on a computer.

You don’t need to speak very loud; all you actually need to do is speak quietly at yourself so that you can focus your mind! You probably wouldn’t believe that such a simple technique would result in a radical English writing improvement; nonetheless, it works very well for those who’ve always perceived writing to be something special.

The reality is that you have to perceive English writing as a tangible form of spoken language and all of a sudden it will become much easier to produce a nice, easy-to-read piece of English text!

سبعة أسرار لتعلم اللغة الانجليزية

السر الأول : Learn about word stressأي تعلم نبرة الكلمات .

نبرة الكلمات والمقصود بها التشديد على بعض الحروف في الكلمة الواحده ، وتعتبر المفتاح الذهبي للتحدث بالإنجليزي وفهم هذه اللغة .

يعني لإتقان نطق الكلمات لازم نعرف أي الحروف في الكلمة هي اللي نشدد عليها ونعرف مقاطع الكلمة الواحدة مع العلم إن بعض الكلمات تكون قصيرة ولا تتقسم إلى مقاطع .  عادة يوضح القاموس مقاطع الكلمات وكيفية نطقها والمطلوب منا الحين إننا نحاول نسمع كيفية نطق الكلمات والتشديد على بعض الحروف دون الآخر في الراديو أو من خلال الأفلام .
خطوتنا الأولى إننا نسمع ونتعرف على النطق الصحيح بعد كذا نستطيع نطقها زي ما ينطقها أهلها .
السر الثاني :   Sentence Stressالتشديد في الجملة .
التشديد على بعض الكلمات في الجملة الواحدة هو المفتاح الذهبي الثاني لفهم اللغة الإنجليزية والتحدث بها .
كيف يكون التشديد في الجملة ؟ المقصود فيه إن بعض الكلمات في الجملة الواحدة نقرأها بصوت أعلى من الكلمات الأخرى .
السر الثالث : Listen ! Listen ! Listen !
استمع ! استمع ! استمع ! البعض يقول أحيانا : أنا لا أستمع إلى أخبار BBC على الراديو لأنهم يتحدثون بسرعة ولا أستطيع فهم ما يقولون .
عندما تجدهم يتحدثون بسرعة ولا تفهم لكلامهم هذا بالضبط يوضح حاجتك للاستماع إليهم.
كيف تتطور و أنت لا تستمع ولا تتدرب ؟
عندما كنت طفل رضيع هل كنت تفهم لغتك الأم ؟ عندما كان عمرك ثلاثة أسابيع أو شهران أو حتى سنة واحدة هل كنت تفهم كل شيء ؟ بالطبع لا ، لكن لكي تتعلم فهم اللغة يجب أن تستمع إليها .
فكر بهذا ، أنت تعلمت اللغة العربية وذلك بالاستماع إليها 24 ساعة في اليوم وسبعة أيام بالأسبوع بعد هذا كله تعلمت كيف تتحدث ثم تعلمت كيف تقرأ وأخيرا كيف تكتب . * لكن الاستماع جاء أولا ..
السر الرابع : Don’ t listen !
لا تستمع . في السر الثالث قلنا استمع بس الحين نقول لا تستمع ؟ ما المقصود بهذا ؟
في البداية هل تعرفون الفرق بين الفعل ( to listen ) والفعل ( to hear ) ؟
أحيانا يكون الاستماع صعب جدا ويحتاج لجهد ، وفي بعض الأوقات يكون من الأفضل أن نسمع فقط .
كيف يعني ؟ نترك الراديو يعمل أو نشغل أي شريط باللغة الإنجليزية بس طبعا مايكون أغاني ولكن لا نستمع فقط نسمع في هذه الحالة نجد أن اللاوعي يستمع بدلا منا وسنظل نتعلم ، إذا استمعنا وحاولنا أن نفهم يمكن مانلقط إلا كلمة وحده بس ويخيب أملنا .
لاتخافون بس اسمعوا ، صدقوني بنستمر نتعلم بهذه الطريقة الشيء المهم إننا نترك الراديو يعمل أو الشريط أو التلفزيون و نسمع للمحادثات باللغة الإنجليزية وأنت لا تسوي شي المخ هو اللي راح يشتغل ويسمع واللاوعي عندنا هو اللي بيسمع ويتعلم .
السر الخامس : Improve your vocabulary with 5 words a day .
طور مخزونك في الكلمات وذلك بخمس كلمات في اليوم الواحد .
زيادة معلوماتك في الكلمات شيء سهل …… كيف تابعوا معي
كم يوما في السنة ؟ عادة 365 يوم ، فلو تعلمت في كل يوم خمس كلمات جديدة بيصير الناتج النهائي في السنة حوالي 1825 كلمة يعني كم كبير من المعلومات هذا غير الكلمات التي من الممكن تعلمها بطرق أخرى بواسطة القراءة أو المحادثة أو الإستماع أو غيره.
اشتر دفتر ملاحظات وسجلي فيه خمس كلمات جديدة في كل يوم وتعلمها وقريبا بيكون مستوى الكلمات عندك ممتاز .
السر السادس : 30 Minutes A Day Better Than 3.5 Hours A We ek .ثلاثون دقيقة باليوم الواحد خير من ثلاث ساعات ونصف الساعة بالأسبوع .
في الحقيقة فإن دراسة اللغة الإنجليزية نصف ساعة في اليوم الواحد خير من ثلاث ساعات ونصف بالأسبوع ، فالدراسة المنتظمة واليومية أفضل بكثير من الدراسة من وقت لآخر وتكون بالإضافة لهذا أسهل .
فإنه لمن السهل إيجاد نصف ساعة باليوم للدراسة وتكون ثابتة بحيث لو خصصنا لها أن تكون بالعصر تكون بنفس الوقت من كل يوم فالانتظام بالدراسة هو المهم .
أخيرا السر السابع : Revise ! Revise ! Revise !
راجع ! راجع ! راجع!
إذا راجعت ستطور من تعليمك 100 %
ما معنى المراجعة ؟
تعني أن تنظر مرة أخرى ، يجب أن تكوني منظم بشأن هذا .
فإذا تعلمت شيء يجب أن تدونه بعد ذلك يجب أن تنظر إليه ثلاث مرات :
* بعد يوم واحد .
* بعد أسبوع .
* بعد شهر .
وبعد كل مراجعة اختبر نفسك …

ما هى أحسن واسهل الطرق لدراسة و اتقان اللغة الانجليزية بسرعة ؟

يظن طلبة اللغة الإنجليزية أن تحقيق الدرجات العالية يعود إلى الذكاء، أو القدرة على الحفظ، أو ملكة خاصة أو سر ما. لكن الحقيقة البسيطة المثبتة بالملاحظة والتجربة والدراسة ـ تقول إن هذا الانطباع خاطئ 100%. إن أي طالب في أي مجموعة دراسية يستطيع أن يفوز بأعلى الدرجات إذا وفر لنفسه هذه الصفات والظروف البسيطة :

§ القناعة بأن ما يدرسه مهم لمستقبله.

§ تخصيص الوقت الكافي للمراجعة والمذاكرة.

§ الإهتمام بالأساسيات البسيطة والتأكد من فهمها ـ ولو بالاستعانة بشخص خارج المركز، أو المدرسة التي ينتمي إليها.

§ المراجعة بالبيت قبل الدرس، ولو لمدة نصف ساعة.

§ كذلك المراجعة بالبيت بعد الدرس، ولو لمدة قصيرة.

§ عمل الواجبات البيتية والتأكد من صحة ردوده على الأسئلة في أقرب وقت ممكن.

§ لا عيب أبداً أن تحفظ ما تستطيع حفظه . ويستحسن أن يكون في جمل كاملة ذات معنى

§ تكرار ما يدرس ـ إذا استطاع – ولو مائة مرة يومياً. قراءة أو كتابة أو سماعاً ، حسب ظروفه وقدراته.

§ محاربة الإحساس بالخجل عند الوقوع في الخطأ ـ فهذا الخطأ هو طريق الصواب ـ إذا ساعد نفسه على الاستفادة منه دون الشعور بالخوف من التقصير أو الفشل.

§ استعمال وقت الدرس في توجيه الأسئلة الصعبة عليه أو المهمة إلى المدرس فهذا يُعد مراجعة ومذاكرة عالية القيمة ، تخدمه هو، وغيره من الطلاب، وتزكي الدافع الذاتي لديه لمزيد من الفهم والإستيعاب والتدريب القيم.

§ أحسن وقت للمذاكرة هو الفترة من اليوم الذي تحس فيها أنك صافي الذهن نشيطا مقبلاً على العمل ، قادراً على دفع المنغصّات العادية إلى مؤخرة الذاكرة لمدة ساعة واحدة .

§ ولعل أحد هذه الأوقات هو الأنسب لك أنت بالذات حسب ميولك:

o الصباح الباكر : بين 5 – 7 صباحاً.

o فترة ما بعد القيلولة ( بعد العصر ).

o فترة ما قبل وجبة العشاء.

o قبل النوم بساعة على الأقل.

o أي وقت آخر تحس فيه بالرغبة بالمذاكرة.

§ تعويد النفس على احترام وقت المذاكرة وعدم السماح لأي كان أن يثنيك عنه فهو لا يدرك خطر هذا السلوك على مصلحتك ونجاحك.

§ استعر كراس أحد الطلبة الممتازين وأنظر كيف ينظم عمله ويتقنه، لكي تسهل دراسته ومراجعته بالبيت.

§ لا تخجل من سؤال زملائك الطلبة بالفصل، بالوقت المناسب لهم ـ ساعة الإستراحة أو قبل الدراسة ـ أو بعدها.

§ ذاكر مع طالب آخر يكون أحسن منك أداء ، واستفد من معلوماته وعاداته الطيبة ولا تذاكر مع طالب يكون حملاً عليك.

§ تذكر هذه القاعدة الذهبية :

o كلما بذلت جهداً أكبر لتحسين فهمك واستيعابك كلما زادت شهيتك للدراسة .

o كلما زاد تقدمك ، سهلت عليك اللغة ، وزاد حبها في نفسك ، وزاد إقبالك عليها.

o وكلما زاد هذا الإقبال على اللغة تحسنت درجاتك وقلت أخطاؤك وأصبحت مثل لعيب الكرة المتمرن الذي تتسابق المهارات والمعرفة في ذاكرته ، بصورة ذاتية لتمكنه من تسديد الهدف، حتى في اللحظة الصعبة. لأنه درب نفسه وجسمه. وذاكرته بالعمل والمران والإصرار على تحقيق أحسن درجة من الأداء في كل يوم.

سجل ملاحظاتك بها – ضع كتب انجليزيه فى غرفتك – استمع الى اذاعه تتحدث اللغه الانجليزيه – شاهد الاخبار بالانجليزيه – الافلام والقنوات التلفزيونيه بالانجليزيه – تحدث مع اصدقائك ممن يجيدون الانجليزيه كلما اتيحت لك فرصه – ستتعلم بشكل سريع ومن المحتمل انك ستجد نفسك تستخدم اللغه حتى اثناء التفكير

4- استمع الى اصحاب اللغه الاصليين
هم يتكلمون يانسيابيه طبيعيه بخلاف المعلمين الذين تعلموها كلغه ثانيه وباستماعك لاصحاب اللغه الاصليه سيجعلك تقلدهم مما يجعلك تصل للانسيابيه بشكل مريح

5- مشاهده المسلسلات الاجنبيه والافلام
هذه ليست طريقه مسليه فحسب بل اكثر فاعليه وتاثيروانا جربتها بنفسى فى مسلسل فريندز ولكن مشكلتها ان بعض المسلسلات والافلام بها بعض المشاهد المحرمه فاحذر ذلك.

6- احذر الاستماع الى الموسيقى
فهى لغه عاميه غير ملتزمه القواعد بالاضافه الى انها سريعه قد تصيبك بالاحباط اذا لم تفهم وفى اكثر المذاهب الفقهيه الموسيقى حرام شرعا لحديث البخارى ” ياتى اقوام من امتى يحللون الحر- الزنا – والحرير والخمر والمعازف” وبالطبع المعازف هى الات الموسيقى.

Whether you’re studying English individually or you randomly meet with a group of students, there are many tips you can take and practice to improve your communication skills.

They say that the first impression is a lasting impression. Grammar imperfections are not acceptable and give off a sloppy understanding of the person’s knowledge of the language. The wrong idea can get across causing an erroneous belief of something. Here are some suggestions to help you sweep away those haunting errors and improve your grammar skills.

First things first, there’s nothing like studying home alone because you have absolute concentration. Some people may find this boring but if you’re taking English lessons in Toronto, learning the language alone has its benefits. You should use a good grammar book and mark yourself daily lessons. As you go through each lesson take notes of particular inquiries that may come up and use today’s best learning tool, the Internet, to help clarify your doubts.

Some common mistakes in grammar are using “your” versus “you’re”. “You’re” is the contraction form for the words “you are” and “your” shows possession of something. Go online and search for examples of ways these words or any other words you have questions about, are used. You can then exchange notes online with students taking Spanish classes in Washington and compare your comprehension of the language.

The most important obstacle to overcome when adapting a new language is identifying everyday bloopers and learning not to repeat them. When you’re searching the Internet, look for regular mishaps other students like yourself do and accustom yourself not to repeat them. Eventually you will come to realize not to reuse that word or phrase when you have to write or communicate orally with someone. Practise makes perfect so the more you practise that better you’ll get your thoughts across.

Make sure the grammar book you are using has the answers in the back unit. This is a great item to use for self test and checking. After you’ve gone through a lesson, make yourself a checklist and go over each skill you’ve learned. Then use the answer key in the back of the book to put your apprentice to test. This is very self-satisfying and rewarding. You can also take advantage of online exercises and quizzes.

Reading out loud is a great way to not only rehearse your writing skills but also to help your memory. It’s important to hear yourself speaking out loud because it’ll help you identify if you’ve structured a sentence incorrectly. Reading silently what we’ve written helps us mentally picture what we’re trying to communicate but speaking out loud helps focus on the idea we’re trying to get across. The more you repeat things the more you’ll register these grammar points and they’ll come out of you naturally in future conversations.

If you have the chance to talk with a native speaker of the language, great! Meet at a nice coffee shop and conversate in English or whatever language you’ve decided to learn, and have them listen and identify your speaking habits. If you don’t know of any native speakers you can always join forums or chat rooms and talk to someone online. This is a great possibility because you can be tested on your writing and oral skills if you speak through Skype. Most importantly, you should have fun learning a new language. The more comfortable you feel with the language, the more flexible your learning habits will become.

Mastering English Slang and Idioms

Good students of English can know all the English words there are to know, yet still feel like a fish out of water if they don't take the time to master English slang and idioms. Now pause from reading this for just a few seconds. Did you notice the idiom in the first sentence of this paragraph? The expression "like a fish out of water" is an English idiom for feeling like you're out of your natural environment. In this case, a student might feel a little out of place if he's sitting around a table with English speakers who use a great deal of English slang and idioms if he doesn't understand it.

To really fit in to American English culture, it helps to know certain idioms and slang. First, however, we will explain the difference between an idiom and slang words. An idiom is an expression not to be taken literally in which certain combinations of words mean something all together different than what they appear to mean. A prime example of an idiom is the phrase "it's a piece of cake", which in English means "something that's really easy or simple." So if you are taking a really easy English test, you would say that the test was "a piece of cake". You will also hear easy classes in college being referred to as "cake" classes. To foreign ears, this might sound silly, but it makes complete sense to English ears because the idiom has deep roots in the culture.

Slang is a little more tricky, because these informal words and phrases often have an element of humor or irony to them that doesn't always translate well. It also changes from generation to generation, based often on youth culture in the U.S. For instance, something that was great in the 1960s was "groovy" or "far out", but those slang terms have fallen out of circulation today. Today, someone might say something great is "sweet" or "the bomb". Of course, the word "cool" has meant great for several generations now.

There are some helpful free video resources online on YouTube that can help you learn common English idioms and slang terminology that you can use in informal conversations with English speakers. A few of them are:

• This English instructor describes some commonly used expressions in English here.
• An instructor walks English students through common slang terms and idioms used in the English language in this series of videos. Once you click on the first video, the others will run consecutively.

7 Tips to speak English fluently

1-Build your emotion:
It's one of the most important steps to speak English fluently but most students forget it, when you are motivated you learn fast and easily. think about building your motivation just before starting to study English (do it each time you want to study English).

2-Study English everyday:
If you want to speak English fluently and you study just one day per week, you're totally wrong!
A question that you may ask will be: I don't have time to study English everyday, how can I do?
it's so simple! take this rule: short time everyday for studying BETTER THAN long time every week.

3-Find material that goes with your level:
Each English student has a different level, for example, if you are an intermediate English student, you should find some English material for intermediate students.
For example, don't listen to English MP3 where you understand nothing! Just listen to English MP3 where you can understand about 80% or 90%

4-Repeat what you studied:
Whenever you want to study English, repeat what you studied the last time. Don't go to a next step until you're comfortable with the actual one.

5-Don't forget new technology:

6-Find some English friends:

Learning English can sometimes be so boring that many English students will leave it, however using new technologies can help them a lot to improve their English skills. Here are some tips to easily learn English and have fun.

1-Watch Videos with subtitles:
This is one the best methods to improve both your English writing and your spoken English, it can also improve your English listening skills.

Another benefit is that's generally "real English", so it will be a good point.
I also recommend that you repeat more than one time, sometimes focus on reading, and sometimes on listening.

3-Set Google in English:
Google is the most used search engine in the world. If you use it in English, you will increase your vocabulary list because you use it everyday which includes more repetition.

You should also use English when you're looking for something in Google.
It's very powerful, because generally people look for things they like in Google, and if you read things that you like in English, you won't get bored!

4-Join an English forum:
Nowadays, forums are dominating the Internet, I didn't think that one of you doesn't know what forums are. However if you join a forum where you can learn English, it will be a good idea. You find many people sharing the same ideas as you...

5-Join forums about your hobbies:
Joining a forum about English learning is a good idea, but you'll get bored if you try it everyday, you always see problems and few solutions...etc

Joining a forum about your hobbies or about things that you like can help you to don't get bored, you learn without thinking because you're only focusing on ideas and not English words.

6-Become a blog reader:
Blogs are very good nowadays, they are simple and easy to manipulate.
